Memantine is used in treatment of patients with moderate to severe Alzheimer’s disease. It is a voltage-dependent, moderate-affinity uncompetitive NMDA-receptor antagonist. It modulates the effects of pathologically elevated tonic levels of glutamate that may lead to neuronal dysfunction.
